Pearl Jam is known for their range as musicians. Best known for being grunge artists earlier in their career, they are now more known for soft/alternative rock. Listen to the song “Comes Then Goes.” The song starts with a melodic guitar riff and Eddie Vedder singing the opening lines, “High or low, where’d you go/ Are you stuck in the middle/ A spectral invisible ghost/ I’m here juxtaposed.”
Because of these lyrics, many fans speculate that this song was written in memoriam of the controversial death of Chris Cornell (former member of Soundgarden) who was a close friend to Vedder, though it was never explicitly said in the tune.
After listening to the song, anyone could notice the emotion from the beat, pace, and lyrics. This song will make you think about your own life and how many people have come and gone. The song does a great job of conveying how the relationships we make during our lifetime shape us as humans.
