It might seem like orange is the color for October, but in the Moraine FitRec building Thursday afternoon, pink took over.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so the FitRec teamed up with Student Life to sponsor a new event: the Big Pink Volleyball Tournament. Members of the Moraine community were encouraged to sign up in teams of 10, at a cost of $5 per player.
As of Friday, the event had raised $1,080 for breast cancer awareness. Organizers are hoping to top the $1,200 mark, as they plan to continue selling T-shirts from the event for $10 each. The shirts are available in the Student Life office, room U202.
The winning team was called “Dungeons and Volleyballs” and included Phyllys Conte, Dimitri Booras, Robert Blaskey, Lucas Skowyra and Peter Wilezynski. The EM team came in second.
“I chose to get involved in this event because it would be fun,” said volleyball player Jbahri Fields. “It’s for a good cause, so why not?”
