The Moraine Valley Men’s Soccer team delivered an impressive performance during their away game on Tuesday, Sept. 17, against Morton College in Cicero. The Cyclones struck early, scoring four goals within the first 20 minutes of the first half. The players exhibited unified teamwork, with cheers resonating from the benches and communicating constructive plays and strategies on the pitch. Morton managed to find the net once before the halftime whistle, but goalkeeper Ryan Decker kept the Panthers at bay with a series of remarkable saves, frustrating their attempts to score. His quick reflexes helped maintain the momentum for the Cyclones, who continued to build on their strong start. Meanwhile, the Cyclones continued their relentless pressure on Morton’s defense throughout the match, showcasing their offensive skills and attacking prowess.
The second half kicked off with a strong play by forward Jamal Morad, who was well supported by midfielder/forward Fernando Alvarez, executing a series of successful plays as the game progressed. Alvarez’s accurate passes and strategic positioning created several scoring opportunities, keeping Morton’s defense on alert. The sidelines were alive with encouragement as players clapped and cheered for their teammates. Head Coach Chris Koloffon and Assistant Coach Javier Roman offered constant guidance and motivation to ensure the players remained focused and energized. In the second half, the Cyclones added three more goals to their tally, while the Panthers only managed to score a single point. The scoring spree highlighted the Cyclones’ versatility, as contributions came from various players throughout the match. Midfielder Keith Montclair celebrated heartily following the decisive 7-2 victory, basking in the triumph of a well-fought match.
Coach Koloffon was all smiles post-match, stating, “We were ready to play. We always talk about being ready, and that game is what it meant.” The players left the pitch buzzing with excitement about their performance and a sense of camaraderie built through their hard work. They know that each game serves as a steppingstone towards their ultimate goal of a successful season.
Looking ahead, the Cyclones’ next match is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, starting at 4 p.m. With their confidence soaring, the team is eager to continue their winning streak and show their supporters what they are capable of achieving this season.
