Moraine Valley’s Muslim Student Alliance (MSA) recently made waves on campus by hosting an unforgettable Iftar event, drawing in over 100 students, and setting a new attendance record for the club. The evening was not only a celebration of unity and community but also served as a platform to raise awareness and support for various causes close to the hearts of the MSA members.
Throughout the semester, MSA had been diligently organizing fundraisers, with one standout event featuring delicious falafel. These efforts were instrumental in bringing the community together and funding their initiatives. However, the Iftar event itself was a testament to the dedication and hard work put in by both the MSA members and the Student Life team, who helped with the setup, providing tables, balloons, and ambient lighting to create a welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.
The evening was filled with engaging speakers, including a retired doctor who passionately addressed the ongoing tragedies in Palestine, urging students to take action and stand in solidarity with those affected. Additionally, the main voice of MSA delivered a compelling message, emphasizing the importance of unity community involvement, and voting, as the vast majority of Muslim people the US do not vote. The event also featured captivating performances, including beautiful songs.
One speaker reflected on the significance of fasting, noting that it’s not merely a religious obligation but a personal journey of self-reflection and growth. The sentiment encapsulated the essence of the event, highlighting the profound spiritual and communal aspects of Ramadan.
Near the closing of the event, they held a platform for advocating for Palestinian rights amidst the ongoing conflict. The speakers delivered powerful messages of support, shedding light on the injustices faced by the Palestinian people and calling for collective action to bring about change.
