Microsoft has rolled out a new authentication process. The current system includes the usage of texts, phone calls, and emails to log in to users’ accounts. This new change will require the use of the Microsoft Authenticator app, which will soon become the default authentication process. By January of 2027, usage of the Authenticator app will be the only way students can access their accounts. Many users have already received a prompt to download and set up the app. Anyone who has not received a prompt can find information in the links below.

Moraine Valley’s Dean of Students Kent Marshall explains, “Microsoft will no longer be supporting text messages and phone calls for multifactor authentication (MFA) and will now require using the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Beginning September 1, 2026, if you do not have the authenticator app already configured, when signing in at morainevalley.edu you will be prompted by the Microsoft MFA Registration Wizard to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app. You will be able to skip this prompt for a limited time; however, we strongly encourage you to complete the setup as soon as possible. If the Authenticator app is not configured by January 2027, you may be unable to sign in and could be locked out of your account.

Setup and Sign in guides are available at mfa.morainevalley.edu.”

If users have any questions or difficulties with initial set up and usage, please visit mfa.morainevalley.edu or contact Moraine Valley IT support.
