Baseball: Double-header sweep generates momentum
Cyclone baseball entered the week with an abysmal 3-9 record to start the year. Looking to create some sort of spark, the team took on Olive-Harvey College on March 20 for a double-header.
The team did exactly what they set out to do with victories of 13-6 and 10-3.
Sophomore Colin Bulger attributes the team’s improvement to doing their best to hit the ball to the opposite field.
“Credit to everyone, coaches and teammates,” Bulger said. “We were pushing each other to shoot the other way. Staying short and quick.”
After those two games, the week’s play was cut short after a weather cancellation of Friday’s double-header against Madison College.
MV will attempt to carry the momentum over into this week with matchups against South Suburban College on Monday, Olive-Harvey again on Wednesday, and a double-header against Oakton Community College to close out the week.

Softball: After week off, team gears up for big week ahead
With a record sitting at 0-4, the softball team had zero games on the schedule this past week, but used the time to prepare in an attempt to pick up the first win of the season.
Sophomore Alexandria Palumbo explained some of the elements the team has been working on during the off week.
“Communication is a huge emphasis this year, whether it be on or off the field,” Palumbo said. “We want everyone to be talking while plays are happening during practice and games, always saying where the ball is going and whatnot.”
The Cyclones are loaded with a packed schedule this week with a double-header against Rock Valley College on Monday, a double-header against South Suburban College on Wednesday, a double-header against College of Lake County on Thursday, and a double-header against Bryant and Stratton College on Saturday.
