Men’s Basketball: First losing week for successful team

Playing three games this week, the Cyclones looked to add onto the win column after an impressive 5-1 start to the season.

With two of the three games on the road, the team was unable to secure wins against Governors State University JV and Joliet Junior College. Despite the two losses, MV was able to win its lone home game against Kishwaukee College.

Among the strengths and weaknesses of the team, sophomore forward Trevon Jones feels that the downfall that contributed to these losses were injury related. “We are very talented as a group,” Jones said. “We just haven’t been healthy enough to keep a steady rotation.”

As the players hope to improve their health, the team will have its hands full playing three games this week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The women’s basketball team split their matchups last week with a 76-67 home loss against Kishwaukee College and a 73-59 victory over Joliet Junior College on the road.

Women’s Basketball: Week reflects up-and-down season

Attempting to continue their win streak, the Cyclones have shown some promise so far this season coming into last week at an above .500 record, sitting at 4-3 overall.

The team’s recent success came to a halt this past Tuesday, as the Cyclones fell to Kishwaukee College at home 76-67. Looking to bounce back for the final game of the week, the women’s team traveled to Joliet Junior College to take on their conference rival.

A bounce-back win was the result for Moraine, 73-59. Sophomore guard Katchie Savic filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals.

Improving on all aspects of the game is going to be key for the team’s long-term success. Sophomore forward/center Mikayla Dove believes there is one specific aspect that can definitely use some improvement: “working on communicating with each other in a more efficient way.”

Pushing forward, the team hopes to start another win streak this week with two games on Tuesday at Triton College and Thursday at Olive-Harvey.
