The MVCC Democracy Commitment will host a voter registration drive on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Any US Citizen who is at least 18 years old is eligible to vote in all elections, but you must be registered (see below for more details). Signing up to vote places individuals in a voting precinct and correlating district both for Illinois elected positions and national elected positions.
Registration tables will be in the Library Lounge (second floor of the L building) and in the Cafeteria in the U building. The process is quick and easy. You will need to present your Illinois Driver’s License or State ID, the date the Driver’s License or ID was issued, the last four digits of your social security number and your date of birth. To be eligible:
- You must be a United States Citizen.
- You must be at least 17 years old on or before the date of the Primary Election and turn 18 on or before the date of the General or Consolidated Election (16 year olds may preregister to vote).
- You must live in your election precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day.
- You must not be serving a sentence of confinement in any penal institution as a result of a conviction.
- You may not claim the right to vote anywhere else.
Students, staff or faculty who are not on campus during the registration drive can still register by clicking on the links in this article, and registering online with the State of Illinois Elections Board.
