Trying to figure out how to pay for college can cause more stress than a student (or parent) needs during their education journey. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can alleviate some of that stress by providing financial aid to college students regardless of their income. By completing the FAFSA, students are considered for federal, state, and financial aid through Moraine Valley – including grants, scholarships, and loans.
Many students fail to apply for FAFSA if they know they won’t qualify for aid due to their income. However, this is a common misunderstanding as students can still qualify for grants, as well as a lower rate if applying for a loan. Moraine Valley will also base scholarship decisions based on your FAFSA.
Creating an account and completing the application takes no longer than an hour. Applicants need to know their date of birth, Social Security number, email address, as well as all income and asset information from their filed tax form. When applying for the 2024-2025 school year, you will need tax forms from 2022. For dependent students, you’ll also need your parent(s) or guardian(s) information.
Additionally, scholarships are a great way to help lower out of pocket payments. The deadline to apply for MVCC scholarships is approaching fast! Extended to May 19th, students should log into their account and fill out a general application. This requires a 300 to 500 word essay that tells your story and why you should be selected to receive a scholarship. Make sure to visit The Speaking and Writing Center, as they can help you with your essay if you are having any trouble. Scholarship awards range from $250.00 to $5,000.00 and are dispersed equally between the Fall and Spring semester.
