The Skyway Writers Competition and Festival is here again. On Thursday, November 14, 2019 young writers and fans of the liberal arts, will gather at Elgin Community College from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Although it is too late to enter the competition this semester, the festival is still free game for all Moraine Valley Students. There will be live performances, public speakers, literary workshops, and open mic readings. Transportation is available for students who do not want to drive themselves, but you must sign up in advance. The bus will be leaving Moraine Valley at 1:45 p.m. on that day. If you plan on riding the bus, please e-mail Lisa Couch, Moraine Valley professor, at couchl3@morainevalley.edu.

The Skyway Writers Competition and Festival, is more than just what one my see at face value. Lisa Couch states, “A contest like this can help students realize that they are writers, that they have a voice, and that’s a powerful thing.” Most of us undervalue our ability to create something significant. Believe it or not we all have something worth sharing, and the only thing keeping one from being a writer is one’s own choice to be so. Lisa Couch always encourages students to join the contest. She believes that for some students, until that moment, they do not realize their skills as writers.

The Skyway Writers Competition and Festival is just one great opportunity to inspire something in all of us. Come support Moraine Valley’s young writers, authors, actors, and artists, and just maybe find your own voice.

Writers are also reminded that November is NaNoWriMo month,  National Novel Writing Month, with a goal to write 50,000 words during the 30 days. Stop by the library for details!
