My name is Demetri Sianis, and I am the new Student Trustee for the 2023-24 school year.
I’m in the culinary, baking and pastry degree program here at Moraine Valley Community College. I have a passion for food and cooking, and am excited to be turning what I love into a fulfilling career. Once I graduate from Moraine, I plan on transferring to National Louis University in Chicago to complete my bachelor’s degree in culinary management. After graduation, I plan to work in a hotel or a fine dining restaurant, and then eventually open my own restaurant. Eventually, I would like to teach culinary classes to be able to teach students not just to learn to cook, but to love to cook.

Student Trustee, 2023-24
I am very excited to be your Student Trustee. I want to be your voice and make an impact on our school. My most important goal is to make sure your voices are being heard and that you are given every possible opportunity to be successful. I plan to achieve this goal in a variety of ways.
- First, I want to make everyone aware of Project Care. This helps students that are experiencing a crisis or setback and gives them resources such as food, transportation assistance, financial assistance and community referrals. I think it is important that students are aware that this is here if they need it and that the school wants to help if they need it.
- I also want to make sure students are aware of various scholarships that are offered by the school and outside of the school. I know that paying for college is hard and I would like to make sure students are getting all the help they need.
- Finally, I want input from everyone else so that I can get them the resources they need to be more successful. Everyone’s ideas are important; all students need their voices to be heard, and I want to help be their voice.
I believe Moraine Valley is a very good school because of the variety of programs, degrees, and certificates offered here. The school is very diverse, and has people from all backgrounds and walks of life. This is what makes our school great. I will make sure that everyone has a chance to voice their concerns, and know that they are part of the Moraine Valley Community.
