Dear Students,

First, I want to welcome all new and returning students to Moraine Valley and wish you the best of luck in your semester. It is hard to believe the summer is over and we are now embarking on a fresh start to classes. Remember, we are all “A” students at the start of the semester; work hard and do your best.

As Student Trustee, my responsibility is to share with you my duties and their highlights. This month I’ve had the honor to attend the Scoops and Scholarships event in which recipients meet with their scholarship sponsors. The annual event gives the sponsors an idea of where their donations are going, and also allows the recipient an opportunity to thank their sponsor in-person.

I also attended the Friends and Family event where students, faculty, staff, and board members gathered to play games, eat, and share laughs and conversations. There was a bouncy house, jumbo Jenga, jumbo Connect Four (which my daughter won many times), bean bag toss, and an ice cream truck. It was nice to see faculty and staff with their families; it shows a different side other than “the ones that issue the grades.”

I’ve been sitting with the Board who are finalizing contract negotiations for staff and faculty. I am not allowed to share the details (because they’re top secret), but I can say that Moraine Valley offers a very competitive package in comparison to other community colleges.

Things to look forward to next month will be the Fall Festival which will be held on September 11, 2024 from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. in the Gateway of the main campus (or inside the gym of G building in the event there is inclement weather). There will be resources on clubs and organizations, student services, as well as games, prizes, food, and fun.

Please feel free to stop by and see me if you have any questions or concerns, need help with getting in contact with the right people for resources, or if you would just like to chat. My office is located in the U building above the cafeteria. Room U204 (which shares space with Phi Theta Kappa). I can be reached at (708) 608-4165. My office hours are Tuesdays from  12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Have a great semester!

Yours Truly,

Student Trustee, Stefanie DaCosta
