What has your student trustee been up to?
I know a lot of people are wondering exactly what being the Student Trustee entails. I must say there have been many phenomenal experiences I have shared since being elected as your Student Trustee. One of the best parts is meeting so many welcoming and warm people, and being able to offer encouragement to students whenever I can. I have learned about the dedication many faculty, staff, and administrators have for students. Fall Fest was a tremendous success thanks to the help of approximately 30 campus departments and 15 clubs and organizations who helped with resources.
Stefanie DaCosta, 2024-25 Student Trustee
I spoke at the Democracy Commitment event held Sept. 17 in the U building. I want to thank Kevin Navratil – Professor of Political Science, Aurora Zwick – Manager for English Language Learner and Multicultural Student Affairs, Cynthia Anderson – Dean of Liberal Arts, and Kent Marshall – Dean of Students and Compliance Officer for considering me as a speaker. This event was held to help students register to vote. There were mock ballets that familiarized students with the voting process, and speakers who briefly talked about why voting is important to them. There were also resources offered, such as a partnership the college has with the Cook County Clerk’s office, in which students can earn up to $800 by working on Election Day. If you are interested, please visit the homepage of your MV Connect under announcements and news.
I attended a press conference at the Southwest Education Center where Senator Hastings and Senator Cunningham spoke. I will fill you in on the conversations that were had soon. In the meantime, thank you for letting me be your Student Trustee and share these wonderful experiences with you.
Yours truly,
Stefanie DaCosta
